USB-C on back of the xB8
Can this be used to connect a network drive?
I had a 5TB drive connected to my NetGear. We all have our own folders on it and I have everyone asking when I am going to get it back online. I really don't want to do shared networking, some PC here only have home versions of windows and anyone that does IT knows the nightmare it can be to share with them...

The USB port uses a USB C connector and contains USB 2.0 signaling and power. The USB port is only intended to
communicate with Comcast approved products.

I will state that it is highly unlikely that the port will ever be enabled for network sharing. Comcast does not want to have to provide support for such a setup; we all know they are barely able to provide help for even the most basic network problems ,much less the headache that goes along with trying to share a hard drive on a router. I would recommend that you look into a NAS, preferably one of the Synology units. Much easier to manage, better interface, etc. The current management interface used by comcast does not have support for attached storage on the box, and is highly unlikely to ever happen.

thanks for the info - that is what I figured (not wanted to hear), but it's ok. I am just waiting on my Nighthawk AXE7800 to be delivered next month, then they can have this limited device back.

Most Comcast devices given to customers are not always exclusive to Comcast. Many other companies may use variations of them. That is why cable boxes have often had USB and/or Ethernet ports that Comcast does not use.
