upstream power low

My upstream power is low according to my Netgear Cable Diagnostics.

All my cable connections are tight and I have no splitters.

What would be the cause of this? Is this on Xfinity's end?

Can you copy and paste your modem logs?

35 to 48 is decent, anything higher or lower is bad.

42 to 46 is the sweet spot.

Thanks for your response strykerz350.

Here's the cable diagnostics from my Netgear cable modem:

Cable Diagnostic

Status: Poor

Action:
[Upstream Power Level]
Try these actions (Click the Refresh button after each step):
1) Make sure the coaxial cable is tightly connected.
2) Remove any unnecessary splitters.
3) Replace any required splitters.
4) Contact your service provider for troubleshooting help.

Are you actually experiencing any connectivity problems ?

Hello EG,

Randomly the internet disconnects then reconnects.

I've power cycled the modem a few times but the cable diagnostics still shows an upstream power status of poor.

Thank you for reaching out to us@user_srzp4c! When your internet disconnects, does it happen on all devices at the same time? Have you noticed if hardwired connections using an ethernet cable also lose connection?

Hi,

It drops for all device on wi-fi.

None of my devices are hardwired to the modem.

A wi-fi signal strength shows good signal strength, so I know it's not the actual wifi.

I understand that low upstream signals can cause this. How can this be fixed?

Here's a cut and paste of the cable diagnostics from my modem:

...

I understand it should be like the number 5 channel.

Thanks.

User EG suggests I use a 9DB return path attenuator. Do you agree with this recommendation?

Thanks.

@user_srzp4c an attenuator is a great way to help with power level output for modems. @EG is a very helpful expert of the Xfinity Forum community, and I trust his recommendations.

Before purchasing the attenuator, we could run through some troubleshooting/signal testing as well to rule out anything signal wise from the area equipment to the home that could be causing issues. If you would like to run through troubleshooting with me, please let me know.

@user_srzp4c

You could try using a return path attenuator to raise the transmit power of the modem to help the signal to be higher than the noise floor. I would try using a 9 dB one and see. YMMV.
