Upload Speed

I recently signed up for an Xfinity xFi internet plan (1gbps) and while the download speeds are largely exceptional, I have been having trouble getting good upload speeds.

I'm using an Xfinity-supplied modem (XB8). I'm also using a direct ethernet connection to my gaming device (cat6 eternet cord, going directly to a Playstation 5 from the modem; not using wifi at all for uploading). My area is confirmed to have upload speeds of 100 mbps available (even though my plan supports 300 mbps), but I'm not even getting half of that.

The upload speeds vary, depending on the time of day. In the middle of the day, I'm getting anywhere between 33.4 and 40.3 mbps. During the night, it's 7.7 to 19.9 (average being about 15) mbps. I have dozens of photos from connection tests.

I'm very disappointed in these results. What can be done to increase these upload speeds?

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your connection speeds, but you have definitely come to the right place for assistance.

If you could send our team a direct message with your full name, the name listed on the account (if different), and the service address associated with your account, I'd be more than happy to look into this for you.

Update: I direct-messaged Xfinity Support, who told me that my area was only approved for 35 mbps upload speed, despite a separate online representative and my local Xfinity store telling me that my area supported 100 mbps upload speeds (again, even though my plan supports up to 300 mbps upload speeds). They informed me that I "will be notified" when my area is slated for the necessary upgrade, but they could not indicate when that would be, and they could not refer me to the team responsible for providing said upgrades. They were therefore completely unable to do anything to remedy the situation. So, I can't do anything about the slower speeds, they can't do anything about the slower speeds, and there is absolutely no indication as to when it can be resolved. This is unacceptable.

I also voiced my frustration with not being able to directly test upload speeds through any Xfinity outlet (Again, the easiest way for me to do it is to check network speeds using my Playstation 5). They incorrectly told me that the Xfinity app had an option to test upload speeds by selecting the "Test Internet Connection" option, but this only displays download speeds; no upload speeds. When I showed them screenshots, they told me I could test the upload speed using a "hardwired speed test from the PC." So they expect users to test upload speeds using tools that Xfinity is unable to directly provide.

I'll be seeing what my local fiber internet provider (Smithville Fiber) can do for me.
