upgraded modem/router - now not able to login admin at 10.0.0.1

With my previous router/modem I would login via browser as admin (with a password i had set) to manage the router/modem. just recently i upgraded the router/modem. today i wanted to login to the gateway and found that the admin password that i had set and had been using did not carry over to the new gateway. is there a way for me to reset the gateway and set a new admin password?

Hard reset the device to factory defaults by pressing and holding in the recessed reset button on the rear for 30 seconds. The default username of admin and the default password of password will now allow access. Start from scratch.
