Upgraded gateway on 300 mbps plan?

We've had xfinity for not quite two years; the 300 mbps plan using the XB6T gateway device.  In researching a specification question my son had, I find a lot of references to this unit being somewhat obsolete.  I also find multiple places where it says a user can upgrade to XB7 simply by taking the old unit to an xfinity store and swapping.

Question 1:  Is the XB6 capable of providing all the performance that I need?  Why is it referred to as being obsolete and/or "economy", etc.?

Question 2:  Can i upgrade by swapping at an xfinity store?

Additional question:  What level of speed would I need to move up to in order to automatically get a better gateway?

Thanks.

Howdy user_i37sj4 👋 I hope you're having a good start to your week, and appreciate you coming to our community with your question! Before anything else, I want you to know we infinitely appreciate the past two years you've been with us too 🙌 When it comes to your internet, while the XB6 is definitely suitable for your 300mbps plan, there are also newer models like the XB7 you can upgrade to at no cost to further optimize your connection to get the most out of it 👍

To get your equipment exchanged, we can either assist you in getting one shipped to your home, or you can stop by any Xfinity office in person to swap it out. To find your nearest Xfinity office, please check out xfinity.com/local/store-offers, and let us know if you have any questions!

I would love to not have to go to the storefront right now due to some medical issues that are keeping us busy.  If I could swap out my XB6 for an XB7 with a minimum effort, that would be great; how do I go about doing that?

It is the one I have. I had be planning to replace it for one of the newer gateways. It does deliver the speed and performance as advertised "for me".

It is old, so I suggest you go for broke and get the latest gateway just to be sure.
