Unwanted devices connecting to my WiFi

I recently installed a router in my apartment. Random devices keep getting wired connections to my WiFi. I have been pausing them and have changed my password and stopped broadcasting my WiFi name. New devices continue to be added. 
Is this an issue with the wiring in the apartment? Will they slow down my WiFi?
