I am having issues, that when I Google them, tell me my wifi is unstable.  I think I need a new gateway/modem as mine is quite old.

@carolene500 Thank you so much for stopping in for help with your connection and the issues you are running into. Our Xfi gateways do last quite some time, and we never like to point at the equipment being the cause of an issue, since it can cause difficulties and extra fees if the new equipment does not resolve your issues. With that, we do want to make sure you have the connection you need, and we offer great troubleshooting options in a few ways. You can check out our Internet troubleshooting help. Or I recommend the Xfinity assistant in the Xfinity app. Once you hit the wifi tab, all you would need to do is hit troubleshoot, and it would walk you through all the steps. Or you can get to the assistant here. If your modem is the issue it would recommend an upgrade, but if it is not, and it picks up another issue, it will help correct the issue or set up a tech appointment for you so one of our field team can get you taken care of. Have you already run through one of our troubleshooting options?

I tried the troublehooter and get the following response:  Modem Status

The Xfinity Gateway you currently have is out of date.

Where do I go from here?  I did talk to your AI assistant yesterday, who ran some tests and said she would transfer me to a live person.  I texted with a live person for a while and got disconnected.   That's when I came to the forums.

@carolene500 You can replace your Xfinity Gateway modem by stopping by your closest Xfinity store to swap out the device or if you would prefer to have us send the new device out by mail you can send our team a DM, and we can help you with that order. You can find your closest Xfinity store at the following link https://www.xfinity.com/local/store-offers.

As a test, does a computer / device that is hardwired directly to the router / gateway device with an Ethernet cable have the same problem ?

Have you had a chance to try that test ?

I tried the troubleshooting tests first which concluded that my gateway is out of date.  Thank you for your helpful input.

YW. I hope that that is actually the cause of the problem. Good luck ! Please post back about how it turns out.
