WHY AM I CONNECTED BY XFINITY/COMCAST TO AN UNSECURRED WIRELESS NETWORK? AS A PAYING CUSTOMER OF COMCAST/XFINITY I SHOULD BE RECEIVING SECURED WIRELESS INTERNET!

What is the exact SSID / broadcast name of that network ?

You and your device(s) decide what to connect to. I can't tell from your post what your situation is.  Are you attempting to connect to your own router at home?  Using a hotspot somewhere? (I have a feeling you may be in your own home but connected to a hotspot anyway.)

In general, when at home, you probably want to connect to your own router.  (If your own router isn't secure, then check the settings.)

 

When away from home and using hotspots, there are different types, see this:
