“Unknown” devices joining home network

Today I’ve gotten about 20 emails (starting around 5am) saying that a new device has joined my home network. All attributes (name, brand, type, model, OS) are given as “unknown”. When I look in the Xfinity app, nothing new is showing up in the list of devices. However, the notifications are also showing up in the My Account app’s Recent Activity list. Suffice it to say I have not newly connected a bunch of devices in the middle of the night or throughout the rest of the day. Does anyone know what is going on?

Have you attempted to pause and/or remove these devices from your network?

@XfinityKyla They don’t show up in the devices list, so I’m not sure how I would go about that.

Hmm, you could always try resetting your WiFi password. Doing so will automatically disconnect any device that was connected to your network.

This is happening to me too.  I don't think it's legit -- in other words, I don't believe the 22 distinct "devices"  are really trying to access my network in my sleepy, closed little neighborhood.

It could be MoCA.  MoCA is basically ethernet over coaxial.  A lot of cable WiFi routers support it as do Comcast gateways.  It's often used to do things like connect a TV box to the internet.  Prior to the latest version MoCA didn't have any built-in security.  Since MoCA signals travel over cable lines you can get devices in other people's homes connecting to your network.  If it's a really bad connection the same device could connect, lose the connection, connect again... over and over.  Any time a MoCA capable device is used a point of entry (PoE) filter should be installed where the cable comes in.  MoCA uses higher frequencies than cable, so a PoE filter is basically just a low pass filter.  They're pretty cheap, less than $10 on Amazon.  If you're using MoCA you'll want to put the filter where the cable comes in.  If not just sticking it on the back of your gateway/router/modem will suffice.

I have gotten 4 emails in the past few days about devices connecting to my account. How is this happening? How do I reach a human to work this out other than going into the Xfinity store?

@user_db2076 I've received similar emails when friends and family come to visit and their devices connect to my network. Even if they had their devices connected before in the past. This article, https://comca.st/3cui44g, helped me remove the notification emails and texts from appearing and I haven't had any issues since.
