Unauthorized users: moca

I recently upgraded to the new Xfinity gateway.  I have a secure password, but unauthorized users and devices are joining my network via moca.   How do I turn this feature off

You can try to log into the management interface @ http://10.0.0.1  username=admin password=password unless you changed it.  You may be able to disable MoCA there, although people report it does turn itself back on sometimes.  It may solve the immediate issue if you can shut it off.

Better, would be getting an MoCA point-of-entry filter.  You screw it on your coax inline.  If you have no MoCA devices yourself, like a coax connected cable box, it can go right on the back of your gateway.  It will block all MoCA from leaking out or getting into your gateway.  If you do have MoCA devices, then it goes where the service enters your residence before any other splitter that feeds other coax jacks in your residence so you can still talk to your devices, but block your neighbors from getting in.

They're around $10 on Amazon, or you can order one on Walmart's site and get one delivered to a store in a day or so, or if there's an Xfinity store by you, people report you can get one for free there.  Search for "MoCA PoE" filter to find one.

@user_sifv3i  No.  Disabling the public hotspot DOES NOT disable MoCA, although the Public Hotspot "feature" is another potential security problem because it shares the same memory and cpu.

You are also blind to any user that logs into the public hotspot, and people report that will turn itself back on too even if you disable it.

If you wish to remove Xfinity security problems, the best way is to just not use Xfinity rental equipment.

user_sifv3i Please send us a DM with your full name and address to Xfinity Support.

To send a direct message:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Message" icon or  https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there.

As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.

An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line.

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
