TECHNICOLOR CGM4981COM Overheating & Causing Network to Drop

Issue:  (tl/dr Cable Modem Overheating)

I received this thing maybe a month ago after signing up with a gigabit internet plan.

Over the last two days my internet has begun to intermittently drop without warning and spontaneously.

Troubleshooting:

I have observed this over the last few days using two Individual computers connected via ethernet directly(eth0) and wirelesslywlan0).

My IoT devices are also experiencing the same drop in the network. (Smart TV, wireless thermostat, ect...)

Trust me - I have attempted to power off the device and power it back on.

I have gone so far as to reformat my main PC thinking it would be a driver issue, but the problem persists.

Currently - I have a literal miniature hurricane fan blowing on it almost the entire day.

Before I introduced a cooling method to the modem, the modem would be hot to the touch and would disconnect my devices.

After about an hour of the fan being on, I can work and procrastinate effectively with an occasional drop in my connection happing less often.

I can tell the connection drops are still happening when I am off work and playing some online games.

The connection to my devices will all drop at the same time, but the modem will still be powered on - just extremely hot.

Then my online game will just freeze, and just the game.

Since this is a tech forum, I would assume most people have played either call of duty or halo.

The symptoms are the same as back when people would hit "Standby" buttons and cheat during multiplayer matches.

This is how it comes across on my end, but when the modem decides to pick up the connection again it says I've disconnected to whatever server I was connected to during game play.

Before comcast I had my own modem that never had this kind of issue before.

As I "Rent" their internet modem from them I would expect their devices to work effectively.

I am at a point now that I would want to move away from their device and use my own as I know that I would not want to have to deal with issues like this in the future.

This is the first time I've ever experienced a modem overheating this bad before. I am afraid it may burst into flames at any point.

Update 12/10/2022

I have a new modem being shipped to me from Comcast. Said it would take 3-5 buisness days.

If this resolves the issue I will let you guys know. It will take a few days of testing to make sure it isn't happening again.

Currently I have my old one still with a miniture hurricane fan blowing on it within a make shift enclosure with an inake and exaust to reduce the tempretures.

Will update as I have more to provide.
