supersonic, arris xb7 upgrade

Hi,

I'm sure a lot of people are interested in faster internet and the supersonic upgrade.   I like comcast but I was a little dissapointed in our experience so I wanted to describe it so other people don't make our mistakes.  I will say that when I was done my internet speed measured and out the door went from 600 download (Powerboost) to 950 download and the upload speed doubled (important with zoom calls), and the wifi was better.  So my big beef is that when you order supersonic you are encouraged to Self Install.   What they don't tell you is that you have to completely uninstall your previous equipment and return it to xfinity before you can self install.  The supersonic order screen and xfinity videos all encourage you to self install but don't tell you have have to uninstall and return the equipment before you can self install.  I'm a pretty technical person, followed the directions, and when it didn't work and we were on the phone with xfinity support, they said they were spending all their time fixing the situation with self install (you can't self install if you haven't returned the equipment).   So I think the answer is to pay xfinity (i think it was only $40) to do the install.  The installer won't have the issue with returning the current product and it should all be a lot faster.   With internet nowadays, few people I know would be down the 4+ hours it would take to uninstall and return the equipment.

One last note of praise.  The new supersonic, arris xb7 router wifi is very good.  I have bought brand new Nighthawk routers lately and in my opinion they didn't increase the useful range of wifi in my house.  This xb7 was very solid (25 meg download) at this one spot that is important to me that the old xfinity arris modem wouldn't reach and even the Nighthawk 5 ghz band wouldn't reach.  The xb7 improved download at another important spot from less than 100 before to 250 download.  The xb7 router is very good for wifi, you probably don't need a seperate router unless you use a shared usb drive in your house.

FWIW, the model number of their latest gateway device is the XB-8.
