Subject: Xfinity 2.3 Gbps Plan – Consistently Slower Than Advertised Download Speeds
I'm currently subscribed to Xfinity's 2.3 Gbps internet service, advertised at approximately 2,278 Mbps download and 293 Mbps upload. While my upload speeds are consistently meeting or exceeding the advertised rate, my download speeds are regularly falling short.
My equipment consists of a NETGEAR CM3000 DOCSIS 3.1 modem and an ASUS RT-BE92U Wi-Fi 7 router, connected via multi-gigabit Ethernet.
I've performed multiple wired speed tests, including connecting my computer directly to the CM3000 to eliminate the ASUS router as a potential bottleneck.
Recent speed test results:
-
Advertised speed: 2,278 Mbps down / 293 Mbps up
-
Directly connected to CM3000: Average 1,849 Mbps down / 292 Mbps up (three tests)
-
Through ASUS router: Consistently around 1,848 Mbps down / 298 Mbps up
-
Previously achieved through ASUS/CM3000: 2,313 Mbps down
The fact that I've previously achieved 2,313 Mbps through the same router confirms that my equipment is capable of delivering the advertised speeds. However, current download performance is consistently below the advertised rate, and direct-to-modem testing has produced even lower results.
I've also replaced Ethernet cables, tested different router firmware versions, and completely power-cycled both devices.
My concern is that something on Xfinity's network is limiting downstream performance, whether that's node congestion, provisioning, DOCSIS signal quality, or another network-side issue.
I'd appreciate assistance from Xfinity in investigating the following:
-
Whether my CM3000 is correctly provisioned for the subscribed speed tier.
-
Whether there are known capacity or congestion issues affecting my neighborhood node.
-
Whether downstream signal quality or correctable/uncorrectable errors indicate a problem.
-
Whether Xfinity can perform diagnostics to determine why my download speeds are below the advertised rate.
I'm not looking for generic Wi-Fi troubleshooting suggestions. These tests were performed using wired multi-gigabit Ethernet connections, including directly to the cable modem.
Has anyone else experienced similar downstream performance limitations on Xfinity's 2 Gbps+ service, and has Xfinity been able to identify or resolve the underlying issue?

Howdy user_crunsx 👋 I'm glad you stopped by the community to detail the dips you're noticing with your speeds recently! As someone that's constantly online gaming among other things, I know how important it is to ensure my connection is at max heath at all times for my own sake, so we'll definitely be able to help confirm whether we see any areas of concern from our end.
To get started, please send us a direct chat message with your full name, the name listed on the account (if different), and the full service address associated with your account to “Xfinity Support”.

I had the 2 gig down 300 up plan. and I would often achieve speeds higher than the plan 2 gig. If you look at EUA End User Agreement for any of the internet providers there is normally a Claus they guarantee 80% of the advertised speed. So you are with in specs. The other thing I found in the last year is that as they upgrade the network is that some times for a short period there ae slow downs as they replace all the different pieces to give you a faster speed. I am now on the 2X2 gig and with my hardwired computer I get a constate 2.4X2.4 Gig. On wireless I get 2.4 down and up varies between 1.4-2 Gig. As we all know WIFI speeds can vary on environmental condition's.
