Stuart, FL - Internmittent packet loss (Miami/NorthDade/Pompano)

Good Afternoon All,

I reside in Stuart, Florida and have a DOCSIS 3.1 Motorola modem, and a NetGear nighthawk router.

Over the course of the last few months, I have encountered insane packet loss, sometimes upwards of 80% to a few nodes in the Miami area. I tried to escalate this via comcast phone support, and as you can all understand, it's very frustrating. I normally wouldn't make an effort to call comcast, or even post here, but it's affecting my wife and I's jobs, as the packet loss is often so bad, we can't work efficiently.

Is comcast doing maintenance, is the node overburdened? Really would like to have my modem reprovisioned and possibly have some of my node assignments adusted -- is that possible in FL?

Pingplotter image attached of the node giving me issues today (Almost always pompano and or miami nodes)

Thank you all.

David

All seems perfect now, noticed that I'm now on "cs04" instead of cs01. Anyway to prevent being on that CS01?

@octeer - Greetings. Thank you for visiting the Xfinity Forums and providing your feedback here. I never like to learn a customer is experiencing service issues, this is not the experience we want for anyone. Great questions. As an Xfinity customer, you can check if there is maintenance, or a service interruption impacting your Xfinity services in a few different ways. Visiting the Status Center is a quick and easy way to check. You can sign in, click the Account icon, then click Support. Scroll down to Common Solutions, and click View Status Center, and a banner at the top of the page will alert you of any issues in your area along with the devices associated with your account.

If nothing is reported, you can also troubleshoot your Xfinity internet using the Xfinity app. It's important to us that you have a great connection on every device and in every room. Many factors can impact connectivity, and our Digital Care team is here to help if further assistance is needed.

... Pingplotter image attached of the node giving me issues today ...

Interpreting trace results is tricky. What appears to be "late" or is reported as "lost" could mean 1) the packet did not reach or was delayed in reaching that hop, or 2) the router at that hop didn't reply or was slow to reply, or 3) the reply from that hop didn't make it back or was delayed in making it back to the trace program.

The fact that hops past than one you are concerned about respond quickly indicates that the router at that address is doing its job: forwarding data packets. That means the router's occasional delay in responding to ping and trace packets, while annoying, is most likely not actually slowing down data transfer. If it was we'd see high RTT values and/or packet loss in subsequent hops, and that's not happening.
