Story ready

My gateway went down and storm ready was not connecting. I called xfinity which told me to remove the storm ready and add it again. When I tried to add it again, it said my gateway was down and I would have to retry when my gateway was back up. I tried the reactivation from my phone while on cellular data.  Xfinity says this should be possible. What am I doing wrong?
