Splitting Wifi Bands

I have multiple devices that need to connect to 2.4ghz band. It has to be split off the 5ghz. They cannot be under the same SSID.

@EG I currently have an XB7. Comcast states that you connect duel band now with it due to a firmware update. I need to split the bands though. Searching on Google does nothing for me.

You must use the Xfinity App. This is right at the top of that Google search;

Steps to Split Xfinity WiFi Bands:
    1. Open the Xfinity appand go to the "Connect" tab.
    2. Tap "See Network" .
    3. Tap the pencil iconnext to your network name.
  • Check the boxto "Use different names for 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi".
  • Rename the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networksto something different, for example, "MyHome24" and "MyHome5".
  • Set a separate passwordfor each network.
  • Save the changes .

Does it not work ? YMMV... Some posters are reporting that they still can't do, it or that it doesn't stick, or that it reverts back again overnight. You also can't separate the bands if you are using their Xfi extender pods. Good luck !

@EG the option for choosing different names doesn't even exist on my app. I've also made sure it it up to date.

Oh well. That's not the only feature that is crippled..... You could always purchase your own third-party equipment and have full control of your network / features. And save the rental fee to boot. Or put it in bridge mode and use your own third-party router.

@EG So I did some research last night on that and I'd love to. The only problem is I couldn't find a modem/router combo with a voice port (we have a landline due to [Edited: "Language"] service at our house). Any idea if one exists?

If I turn the XB7 into bridge mode could I still use the phone port off of it?

Yes. The voice portion will still function.

That's awesome! Last question, how do i get into my admin tool if admin and password won't work and I don't remember changing it? Lol

You'll need to hard reset it back to factory defaults by pressing and holding in the recessed reset button on the rear (or use the WPS button if it doesn't have a reset button hole) for 25-30 seconds. The username and the password will now become the defaults of admin and password. As an FYI, you will lose any customized settings, and they will need to be re-configured from scratch.

@EG I can figure all that out. Thank you so much for the help!!
