"Split Bands (not recommended)" ??

I am having difficulties with an IOT device and was told to have Comcast segregate  the 2.4 and 5 GHz bandwidths with different names so that I can connect specifically  to the 2.4 network. Currently, both bands have the same name. I cannot get through Xfinity Assistant to reach a live agent to help with this problem.

Can someone please help me here?

Hello @user_swt3ag We would be happy to assist with your split band connections and names. Could you confirm the type of modem you are using?

I managed to split my bands and can see now why this is not recommended, i.e. users have to manually switch bands depending on their needs and siting and my extender adds yet a third band. Problem is that my distant IOT device (a mini split) requires the 2.4 GHz band and it kept dropping signal but is now happy with split bands.

Is there a recommended way to have my cake and eat it too? Meaning, retain band steering but guarantee 2.4 GHz for my IOT device (and my phone temporarilly when synching settings)?

TIA

Hi user_swt3ag! I'm happy to hear you were able to find the option to split the bands of you modem! Did you do it using the Xfinity App?

Unfortunately, this works on a case by case basis when it comes to your devices. There are some devices that will continuously have issues staying connected or simply won't connect (typically those that require a 2.4ghz connection) unless your bands are split. I personally have mine split for the same reason. To better help though, can you tell us a little more about the device that's having problems connecting?
