Smart TV - do I need to install a direct internet connection nearby?

I currently have a non-smart TV (has HDMI ports and cable wire from box connects into TV).

I will eventually have to get a smart TV, I think.

Does a smart TV require a nearby internet connection, or can the existing cable TV connection be used?

You can use a hardwired connection or a wireless internet connection, there’s no internet connection between a coax cable to your tv. An internet connection isn’t required unless you are using the tv’s functions that require an internet connection. And you would connect your cable box via hdmi

For what's it's worth, Comcast offers a free flex device, it's their version of a fire stick or ruku, but if you get one, go with the fire stick 4K, it has many more options then a ruku

I currently have Comcast cable + internet, and a non-smart TV (but it has HDMI ports).  My cable wire goes to the box then to the TV.

I am considering going to some other streaming service (Roku or other).  I don't want to do it wirelessly because that will slow it down, I think.

Do I need to install an internet connection near the TV to connect Roku or other directly to the internet?  If so, do I need to get a Comcast person to do it, or an electrician?

Thanks!

Just trying to get away from the Regional Sports fee

If you still tv service, you’ll still have the regional sports fees among others

The flex box is for internet only customers and has less channels available
