Slow wired speed on gigabit service with Netgear router.
I just upgraded my broadband service on Comcast to their Gigabit speed service. I first replaced my Netgear CM500 modem because Comcast said it wasn’t capable of the faster speed. I purchased an Arris Surfboard SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1. Comcast wanted me to use their all in one XB6-T modem/router/voice unit. I don’t like using Comcast equipment if I don’t have to. Anyway, when I connect my Arris modem directly to my desktop, I get great speeds of around 925 Mbps. When I connect my modem to my Netgear R7000 router and Ethernet from the router to the desktop, the desktop speeds drop all the way down to around 292 Mbps. It appears something is not right with the Netgear router or I won't be able to get gigabit speeds without using the XB6-T. Does Comcast has it setup so you can't get gigabit speeds using a 3rd party router? Thanks

Thanks everyone for the replies. I was given the solution on the Tomato firmware forum. In the router I had to enable CTF (Cut-Through Forwarding). Now I'm getting speeds over 900Mbps. That one little adjustment is all I needed.

Do you have any QOS settings enabled in the Netgear router ? If so, try disabling them.

Thank you very much for the reply. I have been a Comcast customer for many years. For as long as I can remember, I have used my own modems and routers, including voice modems. So I'm aware they are not responsible for my personal equipment. I guess in short what I'm trying to find out, is it possible to get gigabit speeds using my own router, or do I have to use the XB6-T. The only reply I got on the Netgear forum so far is to go to Tomato firmware forum since that's what I'm using. I did leave a post on the Tomato forum, but have yet to receive a reply.
