Slow internet connection
I have recently just upgraded my internet to the Extreme Pro+ 600mbps plan. However I can only get speeds of 95mbps. When I was chatting with the tech he stated that because my modem (Netgear NG CM1000V2) and Router (TP Link Archer AX20 AX1800) are not the same brand, and that is why I cannot get higher speeds. Is that really a thing? Isnt that why there are compatibility standards to go by?
The modem is capable of speeds up to 1Gbps, and the Router speeds up to 1.8Gbps. Should I really go buy a new Router to get better speed?

No, do not go buy a new anything!, Has nothing to do with the brands being different. Are you on WIFI getting 95mbps, or wired?

Hello. Thanks for the response I thought that might be the case. I get the same speed wired, and wireless.

Same speed wired or wireless????? That's crazy! You might do some digging in optimizing the settings on both the modem and router to make sure the settings on those are not conflicting, performance, data, etc... And check your connections, splitters, older lines play hell on internet speed.

What speed do you get wth a computer connected directly to the CM1000 cable modem (no router in the mix) ?

When I connect my computer directly to the modem it won't even give me an internet connection, not sure what that's about. I've gone into the modem settings while it's on wifi, however I am not sure what settings I should be looking at as there is not much I can do within the modem.

You have to power cycle the modem.

i would go to network and Internet settings, on your connected network card, click property's, look to see what the negotiated link speed is, if it cant negotiate 1000 Mbps, it will default to 100 Mbps, possibly why your only getting 95 Mbps

Check to see if your computer's NIC (Network Interface Card) / ethernet adapter has a 10/100/1000 (gigabit) ethernet port.

I will look into these things when I get home. So let's say that my laptop can eventually get these speeds, does that mean my PS5 or series X won't be able to? I have checked the speeds on both of those wired and I get the same

After you check all those things everybody suggested, and you still have that speed. Maybe it`s your laptop? How old is it?

Ok. I think I looked at all these things. I don't see anything stating negotiated link speed but when I looked at the link speed it said 344/344. Laptop doesn't have an ethernet port but I can connect via a usb connector.
I cannot find anything that says port state on my modem. Router QOS was not enabled but it was at 1000mbps.
My laptop is brand new as of last month. A samsung galaxy book flex.
Thanks for all your responses, I appreciate it since I feel like in getting no where

I just actually plugged in my work laptop that has a dedicated ethernet port directly to the modem and it was able to get 200mbps. So will I never be able to get more then 100 through my router then?

Router QOS was not enabled but it was at 1000mbps. No need to enabled then. Factory settings Port speed is at AutoSensing. Knowing whether it`s set differently, would be checking your manual to see where to look. Or If you can factory reset both modem and router and recheck speed?
Other reasons would be power levels, older cable lines, splitters etc...
