Slow download speed

Hi, I have been using Xfinity as my internet provider about 4-5 months now. Everything was great up until I started having issues on my Linux Pc. At first I thought it was a driver problem so I installed new drivers however that didn't change anything, then I changed the distro I was using from bazzite to cachyos this didnt work either. Then I tried using a ethernet cable which made it worse. I tried rebooting the modem that didnt work as well. Currently I am having 20 mbps download speed, my plan is 300 mbps. I tested the internet speed on a Windows, I am getting about 300mbps on my windows pc. I dont know what to do anymore is this a problem caused by my pc or xfinity just isnt working well with Linux based OSes. Please help.

hi.

when you tested your linux computer with an ethernet cable,  make sure it was at LEAST cat 5e  to support faster speeds ( cat 6 to be more future proof).

Also make sure your linux network card supports 1GBps  :

one way is to run,  as root,  ' ethtool {interface} '  .  ie   sudo ethtool eth0

look for the section "Supported link modes"  and make sure 1000 baseT is among them.

Linux-User, hello there and thanks for reaching out. I understand your concerns and for all the troublseshooting you've already, that really helps narrow things down. Since you're getting your full speed on the windows device, the connection from Xfinity to your home looks to be working properly, which usually points to something specific with the Linux setup rather compatibility with Xfinity service itself (we don't restrict or limit speeds based on operating system). The slower speeds on both Wi0Fi and Ethernet suggest it could be related to network drivers, adaper settings, or how the Linux distro is hanfdling your hardware. I'd recommend checking for updated kernel drivers, verifying your network adapter configuration (like duplex/speed settings), and possibly test with a live Linux USB to rule out the OS-level issues. If you'd like we can run some troubleshooting steps to see if anything on our ends appears to be in question.

Hi, thank you all for your replies. I ended up installing windows to my PC which solved my issues as my motherboard wasnt really compatible with linux distros or I couldnt just figure out. Thank you again for your replies and time.
