Simplest way to connect coax (currently plugged into DVR) also to Internet
I've been researching this for hours and I can't seem to find a simple answer. Upstairs I have a Motorola modem/router plugged into the coax cable to handle all internet and wifi. Downstairs I have a coax plugged into the DVR.
My wife needs to work from home and needs a fast connection to internet. It would be ideal not to have to purchase another $150 moderm/router. I keep being directed to a MOCA adapter, but it seems to require a complicated setup of of installing a PoE filter (I have no clue where the point of entry is for the cable) and two MOCA adapters, which would drive the price up over $130. There's got to be an easier and cheaper way.
If feel like Comcast should be earning their $237/mo and provide a solution but their support won't even call me back. Calling their support number was a disaster, the robo assistant kept insisting they need to reset my internet connection to troubleshoot, even though there's no problem -- I have several work-related apps connected that should not be interrupted. They refused to connect me to a rep! Plus I don't want to rent any more gear from them.

Adding. Many systems will not allow two modems to be used at one address anyway. It's best to call in to see what the local policy is. Even if they do allow it you will need to pay for two accounts (twice what you are paying for HSI now).

I don't see where you've said anything specifically about where your wife needs to be relative to the router so, is it impossible for her to work from someplace that you can get an ethernet wire to?

I cannot move the modem, the entire office upstairs depends on the internet access. Wi-fi is not high bandwidth enough for her needs.

Because of Dr. - patient confidentiality requirements with her work with the VA, she cannot be in the same room with me during sessions. I already have a complex set up in the upstairs office. Thus, the dining room table.
Finding the point of entry is not as simple as one would think in my house. I've had a number of Comcast technicians stumped as to where that is, but fortunately the cable was already working. Yet so far it seems to remain my only option, which seems crazy.
Also, pay double for internet? That's absurd. One doesn't double or triple their bill to connect more TVs. I'll freakin' run an ethernet cable out the [dang - censored!! no d-word allowed] window and in downstairs before I pay Comcast any more $$$. 😕

Is it though? Judging from this, it appears MoCA is the only option for additional wired Internet entrypoint without dealing with Comcast's greed/bog-level service.
