Should I remove Commscope CSAPDU5VP Drop Amplifier?
I recently dropped TV and phone service and just have Internet now. I have a Commscope CSAPDU5P drop amplifier on the feed into the house. The cable modem is connected to Out 2. Do I really need this drop amplifier any more since the only thing connected to it is the cable modem (TG4482A)? The cable modem is literally sitting right next to it.
FWIW, I did try removing the amplifier and connecting the line right to the cable modem. My adminittingly non-scientific tests though show that there was a very slight performance degradation WITHOUT the amplifier, most noticeable on upload speed. I didn't think the amplified provided any benefit for Internet service, but does it?
Thanks.

You don't need the amp. They can actually cause more problems the they fix ! They are considered as being a *band-aid* fix and should only be used as a last resort.

Compare the signal stats with and without the amp in the mix. Try getting them here: http://10.0.0.1
Please copy all of the text in its entirety of the *Downstream Power Levels*, the *SNR's* (Signal to Noise Ratios), and the *Upstream Power Level* numbers and paste them into your next post.

I have some screenshots, but probably not everything you want to see.
Here is with the drop amp in place:
And here is WITHOUT the amp in place:
I'll try and grab all the text and do another post.
