Separate splitter still required for Internet and TV

A predecessor of Comcast first installed the Internet service (pre-phone days) back in 2001. At the time of the installation, an additional splitter was installed. What I will call the first splitter, is a two-way, with one coax running directly to what is now the Internet/Phone gateway and the other coax going into another two-way splitter with those cables from this running to the two TV's.

Now that I have X1 service, is what I have described as the first splitter, still necessary? Some of the Internet channels (on Pluto and Xumo) will occasionally freeze and buffer and I see suggestions about removing extra splitters, etc.

Thank you.

It depends on how much equipment you have that needs a coax. If you haven’t had a tech out since 2001, it may time for another visit.

I've had techs here over the years, mostly to replace connectors on the coax cables (pre-X1 days), replacement of the gateway and the first splitter was replaced a few years back. The second splitter is new, both splitters are Commscope. Otherwise everything has been fine.

In another thread, I asked about whether the same Internet speeds I'm paying for, is the same speed going to the X1 boxes and was told no. I thought that if the speeds were the same (300Mbps), I wouldn't be seeing the freezing and buffering on Pluto.
