Semi-Frequent MDD message timeout - which leads to high packet loss events / disconnects
With the continued work from home routine it has been an interesting observation of how frequent our connection drops throughout the day. If was a rare occurrence that would be fine and I understand that residential high speed internet isn't going to get the same attention as business class tiers. However, with the rates continuing to increase it's starting to get hard to justify this is the new normal internet for us.
As such I started trying to document the times and events when this happens. I notice on the router logs there are packet loss events which tie to either MDD message timeout or SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Loss of Sync in the cable modem logs. Today new messages showed such as RNG-RSP CCAP Commanded Power Exceeds Value Corresponding to the Top of the DRW. Based upon other threads on signals it would appear the upstream signals are high for us.
Earlier this summer our line was accidently cut by Xfinity when another house added service - as such a new line was installed to the house so I think we can at least rule out a bit of that. Though the tech mentioned there was an extra splitter in the green box since there were more than 4 houses being serviced. The line to the house has one comcast installed splitter which one line leads directly to the cable modem (new cable) and another to the TV via another outside dig to the other side of the house. There are no additional splitters installed.

If there is any additional information that I can provide please let me know. Just to clarify once again, there are no additional splitters on the inside of the house, the cable from outside to the modem inside is brand new and connections were installed by an Xfinity technician.

The upstream power is too high. That is the problem. If there's nothing more that you can do to improve it, you'll have to get the techs involved.
Bear in mind that if the premises facing techs can not find or fix a problem at your home, it is they who are responsible for escalating it to their line / network / maintenance dept. techs. The problem may lie beyond your home in the local neighborhood infrastructure somewhere but it is their S.O.P. to start at the home.

I see the forum is asking me to mark an accepted answer and if I had to choose it would the reply from @EG as a tech came out and checked things and found what he called it a "wave" coming off the wire from the tap before the drop to the house. The tech said things looked fine from tap to the house and from the splitter coming into the house. A maintenance ticket was logged and something was done. Things are better signal wise and more stable but there are times of the day that things get wonky again and causes just enough packet loss to disrupt connections to work. If I were to guess there likely needs to be another review of the lines coming from the node but who knows hold old that infrastructure is and how neglected it has become.
Anyway, signals today - still some oddness with downstream OFDM as that is typically all I see in the modem logs these days.

FWIW, the upstream power is still on the high side on channels 4,5, and 6..... And it's probably fluctuating higher intermittently. Not much wiggle room there....

FYI - after a lot of troubleshooting and a couple of techs on site this issue has been resolved. There was a failing component at the node and a bad line upstream causing the issues. Other than normal maintenance the connection and signals have been absolutely great since the 27th of September. Thank you @EG and @XfinityAaron for the replies.
