Self Install with own modem, going from WOW to Xfinity....VERY UNHAPPY
Couldnt find anything when I searched, received equipment and switching from WOW to Xfinity. Modem is Nighthawk Nightgear C7100v.
Went to install and xfinity can't download to the modem, did recommended reset nothing. she suggested we try the cable boxes. hooked up the main box and after welcome screen and such the red RESET screen showed up. She then says a technician will have to come out now and do the install. I am beyond irritated now. All the connections in the house are new (within 6 months) I am at a loss of what to check at this point.
The only cablecoming into the house is from WOW, do they need to install a new line coming into house now? They are also now charging for a technician to come out on new service after I was told that the self install process would take no time at all. I already hate comcast, and thought of just cancelling it and going to Uverse and using my fire stick.
Any ideas on what can be done is greatly appreciated

They probably thought a self-install would work because the house was connected to Comcast in the past. However, lots of installers like to cut old connections or reuse the other guy's wire(s) to make his job easier. I always watch installers closely.

Each cable company has it's own cable lines. Any cables coming into your house will need to be physically changed to connect to Comcats's cable.

If the cable was previously connected to a WOW coax cable feed, then there is no getting around it. You'll absolutely need a tech out to connect up to a live Comast feed.

Next time either a WOW or Comcast cable installer comes, tell them not to cut the other company's cable. Each cuts the others company's cable each time they come to do a reinstall, and it is a huge waste of material resources and labor (and a lot of dead cable lines running under your yard). I complained to both Comcast and WOW directy (and wrote directly to their CEOs about this bad practice). Then, I directly asked the Comcast and WOW cable installer not to cut the other guy's cable, the last couple of times they came to do a cable install. Now, I have both cables coming to my cable box (one will be disconnected at both the cable box end and the drop box end at the corner of my yard). Now, whenever I switch cable, all they have to do is disconnect the other guy's cable, and reconnect their own the cable, test and activate the account. No more wasted cable lines.
