Secure Connection Failed

Hi - In the past few days I started getting this messages on many legitimate websites.  In particular this happens a lot on xfinity, but also on Vanguard.com and some other sites.

******************the message I get***********************************

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to www.xfinity.com.

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

********************************************************

This only occurrs when I am using wired connection.  If I change to to wireless then I don't have the problem.  I like the security of a wired connection.

I changed nothing on my configuration.  I have this problem on firefox and edge.  Have gone through clearing history and cache to no avail.  I contacted Dell (my PC support) and they say it is not a problem with my hardware.  They are sure it is a "packet" issue with Comcast.  After hours on the phone with Comcast they are completely incapable of giving any ideas on how to fix this.

Xfinity sent a tech out today who changed my modem but still have the same problem.

HELP!

Good evening @user_RW. I am sad to read you are still experiencing issues with a hardwired connection. I know this must be very frustrating. You mentioned you have the issues on Firefox and Edge. Just curious, have you tried Chrome? Also, please check for any Software updates, as this may be part of the issue. Please let us know if you see any improvements.

Hi Krystal - I haven't tried on Chrome but I've been on Firefox for years and my connection worked fine.  While they are a small % of the browser market, one might think that xfinity would work with ~10% of browsers in the U.S. (Edge & Firefox).

I have done all software downloads including Windows and BIOS on my computer.

As I said in my original post Xfinity seems incapable or unwilling to help.  As I noted the tech changed the modem which was not the problem (and after disconnecting the cable feed to my house, he insisted that the only way to hook me up again was to drill another hole through my basement wall?????  This was confusing, inappropriate, infuriating and a waste of time).

He said that my nighthawk router (less than a year old) was junk and that I should only use the comcast modem.  I was skeptical of this advice but I followed it and it did not solve the problem.  I don't understand why xfinity can't remotely access my system and examine if the gateway is causing the problem.

After failing one of the on-line xfinity automated diagnostic tools the system determined I needed yet another tech to come out.  After setting up the appointment I chatted with someone about the appointment to explain that I didn't need another person with the same skill set as the first person.  S/he explained he would send an "engineer".  I now know that xfinity doesn't really have a different kind of person to send.  So another person came out with same skill set as the first person.

He wasn't allowed to look at the gateway settings on my computer.  This is confusing to me.  He did clarify that my nighthawk router was not "junk" and that I should try going hardwire to my router instead of the xfinityt modem.  I tried this and things have mostly improved (this was my original configuration but was failing terribly).  However there are still episodes of very slow speed such that I am unable to communicate with some websites or I need to reload multiple times to finally (slowly) connect like logging in or downloading my account activity.  This is not gaming or any data intensive sites - these are sites like Citibank, Vanguard, Fidelity.

I don't know how to DM you.  When I click on the Direct Messaging button above and I type in @XfinityAnthonyT  - it says it can't find you.  So how do I DM you?

My problem continues - I still can't reach many secure websites with a wired connection.  And have significant problems on the xfinity website trying to reach service or watching tv on-line.

@user_RW You need to use the name Xfinity Support rather than using an employee's name.

@EG   Thank you.  You'd think the comcast rep would mention that.

They did, although maybe not abundantly clear. "Please send a DM to XFINITY SUPPORT with your name and address for me."

@user_ea78ac I am mystified how the browser could be the problem.  When I am using wireless through my router I don't have this problem.  It is only when I am hard wired that the problem exists.  And it happens if I am hard wired to my router or if I am hard wired to the comcast gateway.
