Same iphone shows up as connected to gateway twice

Hi.  My son's iphone shows two connections to the xfinity gateway at the same time.

The phone recently upgraded to ios 16, and that may have something to do with it.  But it shows one connection as an unidentified device, with no other device information (i.e. no device type or manufacturer, no ios, etc), in other words, the gateway does not see it as an iphone.   The gateway also shows a second connection, this one recognized as an iphone with full device information, but still shows as ios 15.5, so this is the old device info.

We rebooted the phone and also toggled wifi to confirm that both connections were coming from the same device.

Thanks

Hi there, @mcmmcm!

It sounds like the duplication might be related to this: Updated Mobile Device Settings May Impact WiFi Connection and xFi Features

In order to communicate with a WiFi network, a mobile device identifies itself using a unique network address called a media access control (MAC) address. A new Private Address setting that was released to your mobile device’s operating system could alter the way the MAC address behaves on your device.

If the setting is enabled on your device, the MAC address of that device will change for each WiFi network you connect to. For instance, when you connect to your 2.4GHz network SSID, the device will have one MAC address, and the MAC address will change when you connect to your 5GHz network SSID.

If needed, you can turn off iCloud Private Relay in the phone settings using these instructions :)

I hope that helps! Please let us know if not!
