Ruckus unleased not working
I admit to being a complete tech novice. I don't even know what to call all the different pieces of my home wifi set up. Anyway, I had an Xfinity tech come check my wifi, because even though their Gateway modem is functioning, I can't locate or access my wifi network. All my smart home equipment is housed in a special cabinet which includes the Gateway and Ruckus, both of which appear to have power. There is also a Ruckus unit attached to the ceiling in the middle of my house. That does not appear to have any power, no lights on at all. For now, until I can actually have someone replace the Ruckus, can I simply unplug it and use my Gateway modem directly. Like I said, I know nothing about all this smart home technology, so hopefully my question at least makes some sense.

I had never heard of a Ruckus... other than a Honda motorbike, and a great Will Smith line from Men in Black.
A quick internet search leads me to believe that it isn't something a "complete tech novice" would buy. All lights out is not a good sign for anything either. I'm a bit surprised the Comcast tech couldn't figure something out, but who knows what their marching orders are. But they verified their stuff works... your stuff is not their problem.
However, to answer your question... what can it hurt? Just unplug the ethernet cable from the ruckus and plug it into your computer and reboot. That should get you onto the internet. Then you can search for "Ruckus Unleashed" and their support forums to help figure out what is going on with that.
Of course, this is only a guess, and your guess is as good as mine.

The tech said that there is no problem with the Gateway. What I mean by directly is bypass the Ruckus completely and magically connect to the Gateway like I used to, before I moved into a "smart" home. I can't have my PC physically tethered to the Gateway, as it is housed in a special cabinet which houses all the tech devices and that cabinet is located in my laundry room.

I've never heard of Ruckus either but they say: "Converged wired and wireless enterprise networks" and "RUCKUS® networks simplify life for IT, while enabling them to deliver exceptional user experiences. With RUCKUS products and solutions, any organization—regardless of size or sophistication—can easily deploy, manage and expand a converged IT/OT network, while addressing unique business outcomes. With the help of machine learning and AI, IT can troubleshoot faster and proactively create, measure and meet SLAs that address the evolving needs of their users."
So, either have the head of your IT department tell one of his guys to go poke the thing, or just ignore it, as you were already thinking of doing. 😁

Ah ha. That leads me to believe that you "inherited" the Ruckus when you moved into this house. You don't really know if it was working before you moved in (but it probably was).
You may be able to go to "myxfinity.com", and click on the little wifi icon at the top and get wifi turned on. However, your gateway may have been set up in "Bridge Mode" which pretty much turns it into a dumb modem and relies on an external device (like the Ruckus) for wifi and routing. If so, it will tell you to disable that.
You may need to get an ethernet cable and temporarily string it along the floor to your computer to log into the gateway and take it out of bridge mode. I don't know if a "factory reset" will do that for you or not.
You say your stuff is in a cabinet. If that cabinet is metal, the wifi signal (if you can get it turned on in the Xfinity gateway) may not be able to get out of the cabinet anyway. The ruckus box on your ceiling leads me to believe that may be a possibility as well.
