Routing Problem with League of legends PLEASE HELP

Ive been playing using 1200mbps ish plan with xfinity for almost a decade now it feels like and up until this year of 2026 its been pretty decent internet ping and gaming wise. However when this year started my ping doubled on league of legends. I use to have 10-13 ping hovered there and now its 19-22 and nothing has really changed i still have 2.5gbps port on my ethernet port and i get the speed i pay for but when i asked gemini ai what i could do to fix this issue it had me do a TraceRT in the cmd and when i did that it showed this (picture below) and i sent the screenshot to gemini and it was saying it is getting routed to somewhere unnecessary. I dont know what im doing with the server or port ect side of things but this is what it told me to write in the xfinity post about the situation.

"

Hello,
Over the last 7-8 months, my baseline routing latency has permanently increased. I am on the 1250 Mbps down / 60 Mbps up tier, wired via a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet adapter directly to my gateway. My physical provisioning and download speeds are perfect, but my regional BGP routing is completely broken.
My routing is currently looping out-of-state before hitting the open web:
  • 1-Mile Local Speedtest: Returns a 44 ms ping to an in-town server.
  • Out-of-State Speedtest: Returns a lower 22 ms ping to a Comcast server in Missouri.
This confirms my local neighborhood node traffic is being swept into an unnecessary out-of-state regional detour loop just to route back to local targets.
Furthermore, running a traceroute to Midwest game servers (Riot Games Chicago) shows my packets hitting area4.il.chicago.comcast.net and 350ecermak, but instead of peering directly, the Comcast backbone is erroneously misrouting the traffic thousands of miles away to California (lax01.riotdirect.net) before returning to the Midwest.
Because this is a core routing table issue affecting my local node area, standard phone support cannot assist. Could a forum administrator please escalate my node's traceroute and routing data directly to the Tier-2 Network Engineering / Network Operations Center (NOC) team to look at the BGP routing tables for my hub?"

this is what Gemini told me to say here. The servers for league of legends North America are in Chicago. ( the chicago server IPs are : 104.160.131.3  / 104.160.131.1(?)
according to the league of legends wiki page for their servers, That being said I dont think my ping should randomly double when the servers are an hour and some change away from me.
(the ping increase has been 100% of the time i play the game since this year started, last year i had 10-13 always. Ive even got a new modem and a new ethernet cord and its the same increased ping.
I would appreciate it if we can figure out why my internet is going to an extra few places or not. Thank you

@Christine.S1 I'm sorry to hear of the connection issues you're having while gaming. Our team is here to help.

To begin, I have some troubleshooting questions to ask.

Are you only experiencing internet issues while gaming?

What type of device are you using to game with? Are you using a PC or console?

Have you had the opportunity to swap out that Ethernet cord?

Have you noticed if this happens during certain timeframes or days when you play?

Do you have additional devices connected such as a separate router, amplifier, Wi-Fi extenders etc.?

I only use the XB7 modem that we rent from xfinity, The ping issues are only when i play league of legends on my PC. The ping difference isn't once a game type deal its been a permanent increase in latency. I use a new ethernet cable, I have swapped out my modem several times and even had a friend bring his PC by earlier this year and tried same issue. He had the same issue at his own home but ended up switches services.

I'd like to just know why the average stable ping went from 10-13ms average even when i was on discord and youtube while playing but now even with everything closed the lowest ive ever gotten in 2026 is 19-20 ping as the lowest. The game im playing is the same, the pc im on is the same, ive tried old and new ethernet cable, and i have the same xfinity plan ive had this whole time. ive gotten a new modem and all still the same.

Christine.S1, Great question. Thanks for providing all of those details and for your patience. I can definitely understand why this would be frustrating, especially since you've already ruled out many of the common causes by replacing the modem, testing different Ethernet cables, using a different PC, and ensuring the issue isn't limited to a single device. Based on what you've described, it sounds less like an issue with your personal equipment and more like a change somewhere along the network path between your connection and the League of Legends servers. While a stable 19–20 ms ping is still considered very good latency, I completely understand your concern when you're consistently seeing nearly double what you were accustomed to before. Just to confirm, you only notice the higher latency with League of Legends, and do not see similar increases when testing other online games or running traceroute/ping tests to other destinations. Does this sound correct? Also, has the increase been present at all times of day, or does it seem more noticeable during peak evening hours? Those details can help determine whether we're looking at game-server routing, regional network changes, or something else affecting the connection path.

The ms ping difference has been all times of the day since this year started, and yes it is only on league of legends, I can also make a ticket on there and see what their support thinks also.

@Christine.S1 That sounds like a great idea! I'll leave this conversation open and wait for your response. This way we can use their information to continue troubleshooting. How does that sound?
