Router Trouble

For the last couple of months I've been experiencing frequent internet drops when using zoom for work. It's very frustrating. I did an internet speed test, and that seemed fine, as long as the signal was coming through, but the connection would still intermittently drop for a minute or two, between 5 and 10 times a day. I finally started using an uptime monitor and it reported the following:

"1/26/2026 3:25:33 PM Log Start
Ping Target 1: 8.8.8.8 - Google
Ping Target 2: 4.2.2.2 - Level3

The XB7 router frequently gets hot. I've tried replacing the ethernet cable to the closest computer it's connected to and it didn't fix the problem. I've tried resetting the router, and it didn't fix the problem.  What can be done to fix this problem?

Many of us in Atlanta or any area forced to route through Atlanta are having this issue.
I'd suggest doing a traceroute to well known public IPs (CloudFare, Google, Reddit, or AWS).
You can use a free program like PingPlotter to do so. Easy to use and understand. Don't fall for the high packet loss on hop 1, as that's their routing easy back to you.
The issue like with many of us is likely the local metro routing. So long as you have not changed any equipment or changed settings since, which I don't imagine you have...
Then it's just likely Xfinity's issue they'll blame your network for instead.
