router firmware

Does xfinity automatically push out firmware updates for its routers (in this case Arris TG1682G)?

If not, how can I update the router firmware?

If so, how can I determine whether the router has the most current (i.e., most secure) firmware?

The router interface has a software tab but does not indicate whether the software is the most current version or when it was installed.

Yes. They are responsible for keeping the firmware up to date.
