Returning router

I need to vacate my apartment and cancel service.  One year ago I picked up an Xfinity router at the Xfinity store, but since that time Xfinity replaced all the apartment routers and bolted a new one to my wall.  How can I determine whether I need to remove this new router and return it to the Xfinity store?
