Remote Desktop Protocol both inbound and outbound with home wireless network

Hello.  I have a relatively new XB7T wireless router set up in default modes for security (lowest level) and remote management (i.e. disabled).  I'd like to understand if this configuration will truly prevent Remote Desktop protocol both into the home network and prevent access to outside the network, or do I need either other equipment or different settings.  Reason for asking is one of my family members (Verizon Fios customer) was recently subjected to hacking where a link was clicked and suddenly perpetrator had full control/access to home computer.  It seems Xfinity service prevents this from happening, but I would like to confirm.  I had called support line and received some conflicting information.  Thank you.

user_i9jdwm Thank you for reaching out to us here today with your modem securirty questions. The settings on the modem may not protect you if you click a link that provides access to your device. Most computers have an option under the settings where you can disable the remote desktop feature, I know that can help.
