Relocating a modem

I want to relocate my modem but the current cable is secured in the wall.  Can I cut the cable then attach a new connector and an additional length of cable to reach the new location?  Could I also use a splitter so that I can move the modem back and forth between the new and current location?

If you can do it properly, go ahead. Adding an unnecessary splitter would depend on your present signal levels and if the added loss of signal affects your modem negatively
