release IP lease
I am trying to get in touch with support, that seems to be harder than it should be. I just recently went from normal xfinity to the NOW program. And my unifi gateway is still trying to get the old WAN ip address. It works for a few minutes, then goes down. I need xfinity to release the old IP address lease so my gateway just tries to get the new WAN ip address.

Hello @user_d2fpjt Sorry for the inconvenience the service switch caused. To release and renew your IP address, follow these steps:
For Windows 10/11:
For Mac OS X:
This process helps resolve connectivity issues when your IP address needs to be refreshed.
For more details see: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/releasing-and-renewing-ip-address

I apologize, I should have been more specific. It's my gateway that needs be released. Not individual computers. When my gateway receives the outside IP address hand of from your bridge mode modem, it still tries to grab my old external address. Then the modem works for a short time, then seems to crash and reboot then repeats the boot loop process.
Then I can take the modem back in regular mode and and it works, but then I'm getting an internal address handed to my gateway, which is not what I want.

FWIW. Doing that on a computer / device that is connected to a stand-alone router or a combo modem / router gateway device will only serve to renew / change the LAN / private IP address that is assigned to a computer / device by the router's built-in DHCP server. It will not renew the WAN / public IP address that is assigned to the router by Comcast's system / DHCP server.

I'm not at all sure that obtaining a new IP address will do what you want, but Google's AI provides steps to change the UniFi MAC address which, for a device configured to use DHCP, should result in a new public IP being assigned. See https://www.google.com/search?q=clone+MAC+address+unifi+gateway.
If you are using a straight cable modem you'll need to reboot your modem after changing the UniFi's MAC address.
If you're using a rental Comcast device, they do not provide a way to change the IP address, and they won't change it for you, so you'd have to:
