Recent Issues with Online Games
So, recently I started having issues with my connection that I can say started after my area was hit by a bad thunderstorm. It knocked the power out twice in the span of about 10 mins or so. This happened a couple of days ago and ever since then I've been having issues with my performance.
I'm connected to the internet now, but when I really notice things aren't right is when I play online games. What I notice that happens is when I am inputting a command, like moving around in game or some action like attacking...the action will either hang or leave me in a state in which none of my commands do anything to affect control of whatever it is I'm controlling.
For instance, I could be moving in a certain direction using the 'W' key on my keyboard then I click 'A' or 'D' to go left or right...but instead I just keep moving forward and there is nothing I can do to change it until the connection restores or something. Or if I'm shooting a gun and the connection messes up I'll be stuck in the firing animation...going through rounds of ammunition.

Uploaded this video to my YouTube to show an example of what I'm experiencing in games. This is from the game League of Legends, just using the practice tool. If you are unfamiliar with League of Legends there are only so many commands. 'Q' - 'W' - 'E' - 'R' are you ability hotkeys. Most everything else is controlled by your mouse. Such as right-clicking on the ground moves your champion to that location. You can see my ping or MS at the top right.
Sorry for the unedited video though, it takes a minute for the minions to spawn in.
* 1:19 - 1:26 you can see the first example. Where my champion is attacking a monster in the jungle, but you see me right-clicking to the side on the ground to move my champion but instead he's just continuing to attack the monster, instead of moving.
* 3:04 - 3:24 The same thing happens, where I'm clicking the ground to move but I'm still attacking the jungle monster. Except this time towards the end I get a "reconnecting" message. Then it does a mini refresh before I'm able to move again.
* 4:05 - 4:19 The same thing happens again. I click to move, but I'm just standing there...followed by another "reconnecting" message.
I've been playing fine before that storm happened, now this is the result of what it's like now. I guess it's packet loss? Or maybe it's latency spikes? Even though my MS in game doesn't really change much to reflect that. Either way, my inputs are being delayed.

One is not right. It's not enough. Be advised that even though you may be subscribed to a low upload speed tier, the upload bandwidth is also needed and used for the download speeds as well. With the way that the TCP IP protocol functions, if the upload bandwidth is insufficient, the download speeds will suffer as well due to a potential slow down of the TCP ACK (Acknowledgment) packets which travel via the upstream path to get sent back to the sender.
In addition, other customers on your local cable segment are sharing that channel with you, this can lead to a traffic congestion problem / slowdown. More channels = a bigger highway for everyone to share.
A noise trap / filter may have been placed in your line without your knowledge. It may be best to get a tech out to investigate / correct the problem. Good luck !

The modem is only locking on to a single upstream channel. There should be 4 or 5. Have you power-cycled it lately to see if it will range for and lock on to the rest ?

Yeah, I've done that a few times over the last couple of days. No idea why it's not locking onto the rest of the upstream channels.
Btw, just to give some info I didn't. I'm connected using an ethernet cable from my modem directly into my PC, it's right beside my computer and using the same outlet.
Also, wouldn't one channel be enough if my plan only has an upload speed (from recent speed test) of about 5-6 mbps?

Just an update: I've been gone from home most of the day, doing a job. I did the same test again just a minute ago using League of Legends again and I didn't notice the same issue again like from the video I posted earlier. I know it wasn't their servers either, because I was having this problem in other online games as well.
Seems to have fixed itself? I have to wonder, because I live in an apartment complex that uses Xfinity, if while I was gone today a technician came out. Because now I'm not having this issue this evening.
I'll keep testing and see if I notice by tomorrow if the problem comes back or something. Odd.

Just that one. It's performing as well as it used to.
I was just reading the other day about older versions of Docsis. Like the one channel that is locked is running Docsis 2.0, when I hear that there is a 3.0 that's being used on newer models these days. Is that true? Also some people were saying someone with a 5 mbps upload speed would be ok running one locked channel. I don't know what it was like before is the thing...I only recently learned about connecting to that gateway page where I can see all of this information because this happened.

I appreciate you having replied to me, I also appreciate the information. I don't know much about networks, but I feel I'm learning some things.
I'll give them a call and see if I can get a technician to come out and investigate/correct things.
Thanks again!
