Reasons for Data Cap??
I just wanted to understand why is Xfinity putting a data cap at all?
I am comparing to Fiber Internet like ATT Fiber, Vexus Fiber, Verizon FiOS, none of these plans have a data cap for high speed. Is this some kind of silly law FCC passed on cable companies? I just dont feel it's fair we have to pay extra 30 dollars to remove a data cap. Why does Xfinity even care how much I download or want to charge for it. It's an antiquated practice and feels like we are getting ripped off. Fiber offers 60 to 80 dollars for a 1 Gbps plan that is synchronous up and down but cable is nearly twice that cost with that fee for 1 Gbps down and a pitiful 38-42 Mbps upload.

So what's really going to blow your mind. If you own your own equipment, the unlimited data add-on is $30/month more, BUT if you rent their Gateway for $15/month, the unlimited data add-on is only more $10/month. So $25/month to rent their equipment with unlimited data, or $30/month if you own your own equipment and want unlimited data.
And Why you might ask?
Well their equipment, by default, has their XfinityWifi wireless network enabled by default. This is so [Edited: "Inflammatory"] can you use the equipment YOU RENT from them in order to provide "Hotspot" access to OTHER xfinity internet/mobile customers. This is why they push SO hard for people to rent their equipment.
If my rented equipment is providing wireless to other customers, I shouldn't be paying anything for you to have your equipment in my home.
Xfinity, you need to stop this fraudulent business behavior immediately.
Also, There is currently an FCC investigation being done regarding the use of data caps and all service providers.

From closed thread:
The Usage Meter resets on the last day of each calendar month. See the Usage Meter Accuracy Audit Reports listed on https://www.netforecast.com/audit-reports/.
Where Standard time is in effect, the reset takes place at 7PM Eastern, 6PM Central, 5PM Mountain, and 4PM Pacific.
Where Daylight Saving time is in effect, it happens at 8PM Eastern, 7PM Central, 6PM Mountain, and 5PM Pacific.
Note that data usage reporting is delayed by several hours to a day or so. It is not immediately apparent at the reset time.
I Had 45Gb left on my data cap on the last moment on the last day of the month. When the xfinity data monitoring app turned over to "0 used 1229Gb available" I started a big download job. Three hours later I get the notification that I had gone over my cap. I am pretty sure that they are using all the data used on the last day of the calendar month regardless to the reset.
