REALLY strange Comcast admin page question (EG help!!)
Yesterday i learned that when you bridge your Comcast gateway, you can no longer access it with 10.0.0.1 but instead 192.168.100. 1
I did that, and immediately was taken to the gateway's web page. I thought all was fine. BUT when I went to sign in with 'admin' and my changed password, I received "ACCESS DENIED!I
I tried several times, no luck.
Then I connected the gateway directly to my computer via Ethernet, rebooted the gateway and when my Internet came back, I accessed the gateway via 10.0.0.1.
The sign on page popped up, I used 'admin' and my previously changed password and got right in immediately!!!
I then connected the gateway back to my router, rebooted the gateway, accessed it via 192.168.100.1 and once again it said my access was denied. For some reason when using the two different URL addresses it wants two different passwords. I tried 'admin' and 'password' and that didn't work so I have no idea what it's looking for. And if I go through the hassle of restoring back to factory settings, I'm pretty sure the same thing will happen. It'll work great when connected directly to my computer, after bridging and going through my router it will not.
Do you have any idea what's going on here? I always appreciate your expertise. Thanks

My comcast xFi gateway IS in bridge mode. I just want to log into it occasionally to check signal levels, etc. I know there's nothing to adjust, I understand all that you are saying.

Thank you ComcastJosephB for your reply.
It IS a total headscratcher, LOL.
I've connected directly to the gateway via Ethernet bypassing my router. I've then done a factory reset on my Comcast gateway, started totally from scratch, changed my password again, and put the gateway in bridge mode. As I say, when I access through 10.0.0.1 I see the gateway's GUI and can enter using my changed password. When i go out and access through 192.168.100.1, I see the GUI again but my password is denied. My router is out of the system both times.
This makes NO sense to me either, but it's what's happening even after a factory reset. Twilight Zone time, lol.

@AlanD Your details are not correct and confusing. As you say, your router is not connected to your modem/router, then if your router is not hooked up, you do not put your modem in bridge mode, The only time a modem should be set to bridge mode, is when you have your personal router connected to it. No router connected, bridge mode not needed.

Mr Gambit
If you read this thread you'd know that I KNOW that the only reason you put a gateway in bridge mode is if you're going to use a router and I DO use a router.
The ONLY reason that I had my router out of the circuit was just for diagnostic purposes because someone told me that it was the router causing the problem so just this ONE time, by removing my router from the equation I wanted to show that it was not the router.
I'm sorry if this is confusing.

Of course ComcastTylerJ!
I appreciate your interest. It's not a huge thing, but I'm really curious about it. As always, thank you
