RE: Issue with Some Advanced Gateways Preventing Mobile Devices from Backing Up on Home WiFi Network - RESOLVED

My iMac no longer backs up via Time Machine to a network WD hard drive. Stopped 10/6/23. Both my iMac and WD hard drive are connected to the XFI gateway via ethernet cables. Every backup fails with the message: ... Antivirus software may be blocking Time Machine from writing to the backup hard drive. How do I fix this?

@user_si8c6h That's really a different problem that the folks on this thread had with WiFi, not Ethernet.

Can you communicate at all with your network storage?  Ping?  WD admin tool?  Anything?  Lot of folks have reported failing Ethernet ports on Xfinity gateways.  Search the threads here.  Otherwise:

Is the disk in read-only mode? (failing hard drive can do that too)  Maybe reboot the WD?  Can you access the drive with "tmutil" from a terminal window and the command line from your Mac?  Is the disk full and just not able to overwrite/replace backups?  You can clear out older backups with tmutil as well -- google is your friend here for command line options.
