So, in order to use the XFi service, Comcast requires that customers lease the Gateway through a monthly subscription as opposed to buying a compatible device?

 

They really tick me off.  What really got me about a year ago was when they told me I needed to be a cable subscriber in order to use the X1 app to access my previously PURCHASED shows and movies.  That seems illegal to me.  I've paid for content that I OWN and you're  telling me I need to be an existing cable customer to watch it?

I've used a bunch of routers over the years, best and most user friendly are ones from ASUS, Netgear... a lot more. You can find reviews of consumer routers at https://www.smallnetbuilder.com and https://www.thewirecutter.com, among other sites.

You can't buy a leased Comcast gateway. There are gateways that will work with the service, but they will not be xFi compatible. You'll have to lease one for that.  See https://mydeviceinfo.xfinity.com for compatible devices.

Well, yes. You're not required to use the xFi service to have Xfinity internet. I've gone back and forth.

If I bought a movie in iTunes, I can only see it in iTunes. Same with Sony, DIsney, VUDU, Universal....or Comcast. This is nothing new. If you want to blame someone, blame the MPAA and their restrictive licensing agreements.

 

Thankfully, Disney's MoviesAnywhere Service now allows you to link various services so if you bought a movie on iTunes, you can watch it on VUDU, or GooglePlay...or X1.

Comcast also uses MoviesAnywhere and you may be able to get your movies back by using that service.
