Random ping spikes

Random ping spikes

Recently I have been experiencing random ping spikes. They go from happening every 11-12 minutes to being fine for an hour like earlier today at 3:32 pm it jumped to 2480, 3:44 pm it went to 2200, and 3:55 pm it was 1950. The spikes happen for about 1-3 seconds and then return to normal.

As for what I have done to fix/diagnose the problem;

  • I checked to see if the cables were loose on my gateway by disconnecting and reconnecting everything
  • Tested the connection on my computer both wired and wireless because I thought the problem might be my ethernet cable
  • Tested the connection on an old laptop wired and wireless because I thought the problem might be with my computer
  • Tested the connection on a phone just to be sure
  • contacted Xfinity to upgrade the gateway

After that, the internet started to completely drop for a couple of minutes randomly but that was something that has regularly been an issue so we had a tech come by for that and they said something about the issue being a cable outside the house and they would return to swap the cable out completely. I am not sure if that ever happened because we didn't get notified of it and never saw them come out to fix it but the internet stopped randomly going out so they must have fixed it but the issue with the spikes never went away.

@user_67c4nt I am sorry to hear of the issues you are having with your connection. Have you only had a technician out once?

Recently yes, once. They came out on Monday 6/9/25 and said someone would come out on Wednesday 6/11/25 to swap out some cable but no one here saw nor heard them so I can't confirm if they did. I also have a correction/update, the internet has started going out completely again. I have screenshots of the Pingplotter results showing it went out 3 times yesterday (from 10:30 pm to 12:00 am) and was also told it went out twice this morning.
