Questions on Gateway and Pod use

According to my account info, I am currently using an Arris TG3482G modem for my internet access.  Although it is several years old, it appears to be generally working well.  A few questions:

1. Should I consider upgrading this older device to a more recent model to take advantage of advances in the technology?

2. I have one location in my home where the signal is a low and sometimes unreliable, so I installed a range extender in that location in an attempt to fix the issue.  The results are better, but not as good as I would like.  Would one of the Pods that I see offered be a better solution?

3. If a Pod would be a better solution, will it be compatible with my current Arris modem or will I also have to upgrade the modem (see question 1, above).

Thanks for any advice that can be provided.

FDSJr Thanks for posting on our Community Forums! As long as your modem is still compatible with our network, you should be fine to keep using it. Wifi extenders can help cover some far reaching areas, but they do only extend the signal they receive. Have you tried placing it in different locations in your home to see if it helps the signal in the dead spots?

Thanks for the reply.  My modem was provided by Xfinity, although it was quite a number of years ago, but I assume that it is still compatible with the network.  It still seems to work fine and provides a very good signal everywhere within the house, except for in an addition at the rear of the house.  Yes, I have moved it to several locations and it is currently in the location that provides the strongest signal and the best signal distribution.  If I am not mistaken, the Pods offered by Xfinity create a mesh network.  I am not sure how this is similar to or different from a range extender and if it is worth trying.
