Problem Getting Internet Essentials,

I have also had a great deal of trouble getting Internet essentials. Last year I applied for it but was told there was only one account allowed per residential address, I was living in the rear of a persons home. The person had their own Xfinity account under their own name, when he went out to work, he shut down his system, leaving me without service. I requested from Xfinity, that I get my own separate account, since I am low income, disabled and receiving SNAP.  I was denied. Since then, the gentleman that owned the house has moved out, and I am here alone. I was and am forced to pay full price for Xfinity service, when I am being told I am most certainly qualified for Internet essentials. It seems to me you are running some kind of a scam!

Hello joshua3528! I appreciate you coming to our community to share your situation, and we definitely want to help 👍 We know how stranded being without internet can leave you, so the last thing we want is to hold you back from starting the service you need. In the case of Internet Essentials, have you already attempted to double-check your eligibility directly at xfinity.com/learn/internet-service/internet-essentials?

@XfinitySeth Hi Seth, I was always eligible for Internet essentials, I was either scammed or they were too lazy to put in the effort to help me get it. It seemed it was just easier to flip me off and force me into a full pay account. I've been forced to pay full amount for the past year, making it a real hardship, but that's about the best one can expect from Comcast, I wouldn't be able to get Essentials now, unless I cancelled my account, waited three (3) months and applied again. That's where the scam comes in. Once you are refused, you are forced to accept an account at full cost or do without if you want to maintain a Comcast account. Doesn't this sound like a scam to you?

While it is true that an existing account with post-paid internet would need to go 90-days internet free in order to switch to Internet Essentials if qualified, this only applies when it's the same account under the same customer name. Are you using internet on an account in your name or the name of the previous home-owner?

Last year when I applied for Essentials, I received a reply from someone at Comcast essentials that basically stated that because of the address situation, I should go to the nearest office, which, I did. But when I got there, the fellow at the service desk said he couldn't get a reply on the computer from Xfinity Essentials as to why they had delayed my request. So he told me either I could come back another day or just sign up for a new program at a promotional price. So out of pure frustration I had to take the 1-year promotion.

But to answer your question, ... at that time, I closed the previous account holders account and opened a new account in my name. I had to do that because I was told there couldn't be two accounts at one address, and the other account holder was paying way to much for me to maintain anyway. That's why This whole thing stinks to me, nobody wants to do the job they're paid to do.

I do understand your frustration with this. When it comes to internet essentials that specific department handles all the applications and determines eligibility. You can always reapply but in order to be eligible you would need to have your services in your name disconnected for 90 days before attempting another application.

Ya, that's why I said Xfinity is a scam, they could have, and should have approved me the first time i applied, even the fellow at the Xfinity counter couldn't understand it. even he just rolled his eyes. Almost worth complaining to the FTA . probably a good case for a lawsuit, fraudulent and misleading. I'm looking into information into a class action suit as we speak, if Xfinity has done this to enough people
