Problem after update in our area

Having a problem with connectivity with certain websites such as Facebook, Xbox, and Playstation networks after there was some updating done in our area. Have reset all our cable boxes and wifi in our house and still doesn't work. The problem seems to come and go. When we connect to Facebook it does not update to recent posts instead will give posts from days ago. When connecting to Xbox or Playstation networks there is issues updating also. Is anybody else having this issue?

Greetings, @user_4f8526! I hope your week has been treating you well. Thanks so much for taking a moment out of your busy day to leave a post on our community forum. I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your network, but you have definitely come to the right place for assistance.

You mentioned this only started happening recently, after an update was performed in your area. Have you already checked the firewall settings in your modem to see if any of these affected IP addresses were listed, or if your security levels were changed, by any chance?

@XfinityJamesC This is happening to me as well, but I have no idea how to check firewall settings or IP addresses. Is there a tutorial for this?

Hello @user_80cf41 we appreciate you taking the time to reach out to our team via Forums. We certainly understand the importance of having access to the Internet and explore websites freely.

You can check your firewall settings by following these steps:

How to Set Up a Firewall

A firewall is a barrier that controls what kind of data comes into and out of your network. A firewall can prevent spam sites from installing unwanted programs on your computer, protect your personal information from theft, and much more.

Note: Higher security from a firewall can block functions you might use, such as peer-to-peer applications, like Skype or Spotify. The default firewall setting on the Wireless Gateway is Low, but you can change your settings to suit your particular needs at any time.

To set up a firewall, follow these step-by-step instructions:

1. Connect a laptop, computer or mobile device to your home Internet network and open a web browser. Go the Gateway's Admin Tool at https://comca.st/3Mt9eAL and log in with the following username and password:
Username: admin
Password: password
Note: You will be prompted to change your password the first time you access. Please change the password and, if required, log in to the Admin Tool with the new password.
2. On the Admin Tool homepage, click Gateway.
3. Under Gateway, click Firewall.
4. From there, you can choose IPv4 or IPv6.
5. After choosing either, you will see the following options:
Maximum Security (High), which will block most applications except web browsing, email, iTunes and VPN.
Typical Security (Medium), which allows access to most sites and services, but blocks all peer-to-peer applications.
Minimum Security (Low), which enables all secure apps. This is the default setting when you first use your Wireless Gateway.
Custom Security, which will allow you to block individual types of traffic, or disable your firewall entirely.
Note: If you have an XB7 Wireless Gateway, you’ll only see options for Typical Security and Customer Security after selecting IPv6.
6. Select the firewall setting you want.
7. Click Save Settings.
Note: A firewall can be set up on both your computer and your Xfinity Gateway, but more than one firewall can cause interference.
