Power not working

I came home from visiting my in-laws for Labor Day weekend, and I went to do my college homework, but I soon realized that I have a powered-off modem. I have tried my own troubleshooting with the modem; I have tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, but it still does not turn on. I tried checking the cables, to no avail. I then tried to see if the outlet is bad; I plugged a lamp into the same outlet, and the lamp turns on fine. So it comes down to the modem, do I get a new one or have a tech guy come check it out.
