Port forwarding stopped working & can't ping my gateway from the internet after last Fridays maintenance

I have been using port forwarding to SSH into a machine on my home network successfully for a few years. Last Thursday and Friday there was some maintenance in our area for upgrades. After Friday this no longer works. I have also noticed that I can't ping my WAN IP4 address anymore. Traceroute says destination unreachable.

I finally figured it out. My WAN IP address had changed but the Xfinity App still shows the old WAN IP Address. On top of that when I login to the cable modem it shows no WAN IPv4 or IPv6 address assigned. https://www.whatsmyip.org/ showed my latest IP address.

FWIW. If one is behind a stand alone router or a combo modem / router gateway device, that will only serve to release and renew the private / LAN IP address that the router's built-in DHCP server assigns to the client, not the public  / WAN IP address that the Comcast DHCP server assigns to the connection.
