port forward hard wired device

I am trying to port forward my minecraft server ( running on unraid ) so people outside my local network can join, but I have been told that for some reason we cannot port forward hard wired devices, is there any way around this? I really don't want to sacrifice the already limited bandwidth and latency to go out and buy a wireless card just to run a  mincraft server.

I need a way to do this.

If you are directly plugged into your Modem for internet connection; I believe you won't have a webpage designed for that sort of stuff. However if you have a router you should be able to pull up its webpage via the IP address depending on what router you have in the search bar of any Internet Browser and be able to find your way to the Port Forward settings after logging in. (Usually 1st time logins are admin and password)
