Poor Downstream connection

Just upgraded my modem/router. New device (CAX80) has an option to show cable connection quality.
my internet access and Upstream status are green, but Downstream status is red.
there is another post with similar issue which has been resolved by replacing the cable line from the pole.

however, we live in an apartment building and no idea where we have the pole line coming into the building and no idea what type of cables and how many splitters are between that line to our unit. My modem/router is directly connected to wall coaxial outlet using a brand new coaxial cable from Xfinity.

See Modem connection report below:

Status: Poor

Action:
[Downstream Power Level]
Try these actions (Click the Refresh button after each step):
1) Make sure the coaxial cable is tightly connected.
2) Remove any unnecessary splitters.
3) Replace any required splitters.
4) Contact your service provider for troubleshooting help.

Internet Access: Good

Downstream Status: Bad

    Downstream Power Level: Bad
Downstream power is poor (-23.4dBmV). The recommended level is between -10dBmV to 10dBmV.

The downstream power is terrible / out of spec ! MDU's (multiple dwellings) can typically be troublesome for cable. You may want to first contact the building owner / maintenance / management about this. There may be bad wiring / hardware and / or an amplifier that is not powered on somewhere. Building owners are typically responsible for maintaining / repairing internal coax wiring / hardware. Good luck !

Hi there @user_1d5be6 I'm so sorry you are having these issues with your modem.

Could you please send our team a direct message with your full name and full address?

To send a "Direct Message" message:

  • Click "Sign In" if necessary
  • Click the "Direct Messaging" icon at the top of the page (looks like a text bubble)
  • Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
  • Type "Xfinity Support" in the "To:" line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list which appears. The "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line
  • Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
  • Press Enter to send it

@EG Thank you for taking the time. I’ve been meaning to get back to you. In our building, we own our units. It’s not exactly a condominium, but in the term of ownership, it is. So I should be responsible for anything happens inside my unit and HOA in charge of everything in common areas.

since my previous message I talked with Netgear support we attempted to reflashing my modem which was not successful! Modem was loosing connection few seconds after we attempted to upload the flash .bin file to it. Kept trying several times and after couple of hours I just gave up!
the only result of this was that now the upstream status is also (yellow) not good anymore!

I decided to use my old Arris modem/router and exchange my CAX80 with another one.

Also sent a direct message to Xfinity Support as instructed to see what happens.

I will post an update as soon as I have it.

Thank you

Hello @user_1d5be6. Thank you for posting again. After doing some digging, I was not able to locate a direct message from you. When you have a moment, please send a direct message with your name and service address to "Xfinity Support" by clicking on the "Direct Messaging" chat icon in the top right corner of the page, then click on the pen and pad icon and enter "Xfinity Support" in the "To" section of the chat, so we can help.

I no longer work for Comcast.
