Permanent Disable of WiFi 6GHz on Gateway

Hello, I have 2 xFi pods (newest model) that don't broadcast 6GHz and it's causing issues with newer iPhones (15+) where I'll stay connected to the Gateway (6GHz band) when I should be roaming to one of the pods.  I've connected to the gateway directly and disabled 6GHz and confirmed with a macbook that it's not broadcasting 6Ghz anymore but if the Gateway reboots (I'm not sure what other triggers there are), it seems 6GHz is re-enabled.  In the xFinity app (on iPhone), it doesn't show 6GHz, so there's no way to disable it there.  Any help would be greatly appreciated on how to permanently disable 6GHz being broadcast from just the gateway.

Thanks!

After xFinity support couldn't help and reading many other posts on this forum (about the sheer amount of issues newer iPhone and iPads have w/ XB8 Gateway combined with xFi pods), I returned the xFi pods and got a TP-Link Deco mesh system.  No issues with any device on the system.  Can now take calls upstairs and walk down 2 floors (or outside) without hiccups.  Easy setup.  Get blistering speeds outside now and all the way in the basement.

You don’t need to, nor should you, disable the 6GHz band on your XB8.

For iPhones that have WiFi 6E capability, it would be an utter waste not to have it enabled.

For your XB8 with xFi Gen2 Pods, with these newer iPhones, you need to go into the Xfinity app, tap on WiFi at the bottom of the screen, then tap WiFi details, then Edit WiFi settings. Here you will set the Security mode to WPA3-Personal-Transition.

Then power cycle your XB8, followed by the xFi Pods.

Completely forget any and all versions of your home WiFi network on your iPhones. Restart your iPhones.

Once the XB8 and the xFi Pods are fully online, “Join” your WiFi network with a fresh connection from your iPhones.

if you have any issues after that, please let my know.

I appreciate your response but I don't really care about the speeds or benefits of 6GHz I'm getting on my phone.  I use a laptop and desktop for the heavy lifting.  My phone is for basic stuff.  It's more about full coverage and when entertaining guests I don't want to be troubleshooting why they can't get internet in the bottom floor (where a guest room is).  Or when we have 10 people outside and I made sure you get full coverage out there but it's clinging to 6GHz from the gateway which makes it a poor enough signal to not be working.

I had changed the security mode to "WPA3-Personal-Transition" after installing the pods.  When I login to the gateway, 2.4GHz and 5GHz are set to WPA3-Personal-Transition but 6GHz is set to WPA3-Personal Only - and cannot be changed.  6GHz was enabled again today :(

Hello, @Ruberrito it sounds like you have done a lot of troubleshooting and the reply shared by @user_323c89 is the ideal thing to do. Especially because there’s no way to permanently disable Wi-Fi 6.

My iPhones (15 and 16 pro) stopped connecting automatically to Gen 2 Pods about 2 months ago after an update. I have tried all the above plus everything else that's been offered as solutions.  I even bought two new pods but that didn't work either. Nothing has worked. Another thread said they "disabled 6 GHz in SSID" (no idea how to do that) and it solved the issue, so who's correct on this?

I can connect to the pods only if I "forget the network" and then "join the network" with password when near the pods.  If connected to the Gateway we have to do that every time we move away from it.

Disabling WiFi6 and running the whole network, router plus pods, on WPA2 has been the way I can actually connect and stay connected on the xfinity network with an iPhone 16 pro while walking around the house. Wife’s phone does the same thing, same model. The phones are the only devices that seem to be affected here, but super annoying to have a whole house on WiFi streaming and Sonos and I can’t connect because the phone doesn’t stay on network- as soon as WiFi6 turns itself back on, issues again. Crazy to have to deal with this issue- debating dumping the whole network and installing a third party system, just frustrating to eat the cost on several pods and zero help from xfinity to recognize the problem.

@user_il2sun I am sorry to hear of your issue. Are you seeing this on other phones or just your phone?
